Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Governor General Mary Simon oversaw a cabinet swearing-in at Rideau Hall following the resignation of former Minister Steven Guilbeault.
Key changes affecting Parks Canada and related portfolios include:
- Julie Dabrusin (MP Toronto-Danforth, Ontario), already serving as Minister of Environment and Climate Change, now assumes the expanded role of Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature, which includes responsibility for the Parks Canada Agency. Parks Canada therefore returns under Environment and Climate Change Canada.
- Marc Miller (MP Ville-Marie–Le Sud–Ouest–Île-des-Sœurs, Quebec) is now Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister Responsible for Official Languages.
- Joël Lightbound (MP Louis-Hébert, Quebec) continues as Minister of Government Transformation and Public Works and Procurement, and also assumes the role of Quebec Lieutenant, with responsibility including Canada Post.
This reshuffle follows Guilbeault’s resignation amid concerns over federal climate policy and a recently signed memorandum of understanding on a proposed Alberta-to-BC pipeline.
