Icefields Parkway, and transportation remain top concerns in Jasper

AMPPE held a workshop in Jasper on April 17, to identify members’ top concerns and ideas. While many issues were mentioned, members unanimously pointed to issues along Icefields Parkway as having the greatest impact on their businesses, recreational aspirations, and the town in general.

Frustrations over avalanche and road maintenance, a lack of cell service, and safety concerns for cyclists are major concerns. Other issues discussed included communication and transparency of Parks Canada, access and licenses of occupation for guides, development permits, and bridge replacement.

Members also discussed new ideas and areas of untapped potential, such as regional transit and pathways for active transportation. Members noted that while Jasper National Park has invested in upgrading campgrounds to accommodate larger vehicles, a shuttle service and safe path to popular areas could help reduce congestion and manage visitor behaviour issues.
